THE CHINESE BOXER
Original theatrical trailer for Jimmy Wang Yu’s directorial debut! This milestone of a film is significant in the fact that it was the very first modern-style (violence, bloodshed) kung-fu movie and it beat Bruce Lee’s films to the screen by nearly two years! Wang Yu wrote, directed and starred in this late sixties (69) chop-socky classic that became a trendsetter for the next ten years! Lo Lieh stars as a Japanese villain here, and would star in the Shaw’s next kung-fu film a year later (which would be the film that ignites the kung-fu craze of the early seventies) Cheng Chang-Ho’s KING BOXER as the main hero! This part was reserved for Wang Yu, but he had already left the Shaws for rival Golden Harvest earlier that year. This was Jimmy Wang Yu’s last martial-arts film for the Shaw Studio. His final film for them was a teen-angst melodrama entitled MY SON.
